Marking 40 years since one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in North Carolina history

(WWAY) — Thursday makes 40 years since one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in North Carolina’s history.
Most of the tornado activity across the state on March 28, 1984 remained northwest of the Cape Fear, with several F3 and F4 twisters racing through.
But a strong F3 impacted a small portion of extreme northwestern sections of Bladen County, with an F2 moving from South Carolina into Columbus County near Tabor City.
Across the Carolinas, 20 tornadoes caused 1,181 injuries and killed 57 people.
